Our  Voices, 1,000 Ways to Fight Abuse in Indian Communities Campaign

An outreach campaign made possible by the Corporation for National and Community Service and the Administration for Native Americans (ANA) and the National Society for American Indian Elderly.

Volunteer Networks

Through the development of outreach campaigns utilizing volunteer programs grants helped increase outreach and education activities.  Using established AmeriCorps VISTA or other volunteer networks serving Native American communities.  Projects included urban American Indian and Alaska Native populations through the development of outreach and education strategies.  Funding wa granted for strategies that engaged members of the community to address the selected focus area.

The topic area chosen addressed a pressing needs in each community.  The funding was flexible to help develop creative solutions at a grassroots level.  The purpose of this funding was to award grants to fund community outreach efforts.  Projects addressed an issue area related to one of the following topics: drug use and abuse (including methamphetamines), alcohol misuse and abuse, domestic violence, elder abuse (including financial abuse, physical abuse or emotional abuse) and suicide prevention.
